What is Trigger from External App?

The Trigger from External App component acts as a bridge between external applications and your Workflow86 workflows. When a specific event happens in a connected app (like a new lead in Salesforce or a new order in Shopify), this component detects it and automatically starts your workflow, passing along all the relevant event data.

Setting up the trigger

Step 1: Select an application

Select the Trigger from External App component from the component menu:

important

Make sure you have the necessary permissions in the external application to set up triggers and access the required data.

Step 4: Define output placeholder

Create a placeholder key to access the trigger data in your workflow. This placeholder will contain all the data from the triggering event as a JSON string.

tip

Use an AI or Run Code component to parse or extract values from the output.

Step 5: Publish your workflow

Your workflow must be published before the trigger is active. Make sure to publish it before triggering any events in the external app.

Using the Trigger from External App with AI

When configuring a workflow, the AI is provided with a list of all Trigger integrations you have enabled.

To make the AI aware of the apps you currently use and allow it to select specific apps when it is building a workflow, go to the Secrets and Credentials page and login to the apps which you want to use as triggers to a workflow.
